So imagine my surprise when I log into my Facebook account (of all places) to learn that the worst signing in MLS history was off TFC's books. And that they also got rid of the other guy too.
This makes up for that Canada Day they ruined for me in 2008 by losing to the USL Whitecaps. Bloody Martin Nash. So much so that I’m taking time away from my Welsh vacation to make this post, after spending a delightful day with puffins on Skomer Island (and terrifying drive along Welsh coastal roads afterwards)
I’m typing this on a cheap tablet that keeps wanting to add commas to everything so please forgive any typks'*
A quick evaluation of the moves: brilliant with a dash of depressing.
Brilliant because it had to be done to allow Robin Fraser any hope of building something here. Both players were vastly overpaid and represented an attempt at replicating the type of build that TFC used to win MPS Cup in 2017, but is now being shown as outdated. Even if it wasn’t though, it still wouldn’t have worked because Insigne turned out to be a goddamn baby. That's my professional take on why he wasn’t a good fit. I stand by the evaluation.
Bernardeschi was less so, but as I've written many times before he’s a luxury player that could help a good team, not a core player who could drive the bus for a bad team.
I’ll wish Bernardeschi good luck though. Insigne can pound rocks.
As for the dash of depressing, well, they had to do this to allow themselves to fix the mess that last 5 years has created. And it’s a mess.
TFC is a bad football team that can’t be quickly fixed.
But at least it can be fixed now. That is the best news TFC fans have gotten in a long time.
You forgot to mention Bill Manning, who was responsible for the mess.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to a least one report on your holiday in Wales. Cheers.
