On TFC's 2025 season
If I was to write the history of Toronto FC’s 2025 season, I’d probably just post the above Xwitter post by Reds stats guru Martyn Bailey. It sums it up, doesn’t it?
Martyn is one of the few reasons to head over to the cesspool that used to be Twitter these days. Give him a follow to learn all kinds of interesting things about TFC. For instance, the Reds tying goal on Saturday was the latest goal in club history. Neat.
See, that’s the type of thing that would excite TFC fans in normal circumstances. Well, maybe not normal, since sleepwalking through the final weeks of another lost year kind of is the normal now. The Seba Show seems like a long time ago, doesn’t it?
So, yes, The Invisibles is about right. Turns out numbers guys can sometimes have a way with words, too.
I’m glad someone does because I’ve been trying to motivate myself to write about this team for about a month now. What’s there to say, really? They’ve drawn 8 straight games. Not all undefeated streaks are exciting. This season was over the day they got rid of the two Italians. In fact, it never really started because getting rid of the dead weight was literally the best that could be hoped for back last winter.
There were some moments here and there — I guess — but it’s hard to remember a less memorable TFC season over the last 19 years. Worse seasons? One million per cent. But, forgettable?
No, this is the rock bottom when it comes to that.
That comes down to a bunch of factors, some of which are beyond their control — the Jays success, chief among them. It’s hard to get amped up by a re-build when you can get a ticket to the Dome and watch a Toronto team chase a championship.
The biggest issue, however, is burnout. For many — especially those who have been around a while — it’s hard to care all that much until they sort their shit out.
Sorry to be that colourful, but that’s it. TFC can tell us what their plans are and how much they believe in Jason Bent’s Robin Fraser (I’m an idiot) vision, but, man…
Wake me up when there is something to care about again, ok? The national team will keep us focused in the meantime. Maybe check out Forge or something.
This isn’t meant as a warning call or anything. Those who care will care again. Quickly. It’s also not meant as a criticism of the current direction, such as it is. From what I’ve seen, Bent Fraser seems to be moving the team in the right direction.
They are on an eight game undefeated streak, after all. That’s not nothing, even if it’s possibly the least inspiring eight game undefeated streak in the history of organized sport.
At this point, however, I’m mostly focused on the January transfer window and hoping that one day again I can be excited by the prospect of going to BMO to watch this team.
I know I’m not the only person who feels this way.

Article mentions Jason Bent twice, who is a different Black former TFC assistant coach.
Hey Duane! Following for years. Thank you for keeping with it. Did you mean Jason Hernandez?
